  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Coconut sugar can be used as a healthier alternative.
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar Adds a tangy kick.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil Optional, adds a nutty flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Use more for stronger garlic flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated Fresh ginger is preferable.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch To thicken the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons water To mix with cornstarch.

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  • In a separate small bowl, mix cornstarch and water to create a slurry.

Cooking

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef strips in a single layer and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Pour the sauce over the cooked beef and simmer for a few minutes.
  • Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens.

Serving

  • Remove from heat and serve your teriyaki beef over rice or noodles. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Notes

Slice beef against the grain for tenderness. Adjust sugar to taste and consider adding veggies for extra nutrition. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
