Delicious Angel Beef Casserole

Preheat oven to 400–425°F (200–220°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with mushrooms (if using) and seasonings until the beef is no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
Stir in softened cream cheese and milk (or beef broth). Mix until smooth. If desired, add cornstarch to thicken the sauce.
Spread the beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
Arrange the frozen tater tots on top of the beef mixture, spreading them out evenly.
Bake for 25–35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden and crispy. For extra crispness, rotate the dish halfway through baking.
Optional: Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top and bake for 1–2 more minutes until the cheese melts.
Let sit for a few minutes before serving.
